About
Bren O’Callaghan is currently a producer and manager with the BBC Public Space Broadcasting Project. He’s responsible for the Big Screen Liverpool and facilitation of artistic and interactive projects across the rapidly expanding screen network.
These range from digital video art to short film, soundscapes, responsive applications and interventions in public space.
In the past year, he has enabled both community-led projects and curated showcases of video art / responsive media for delivery during Liverpool 2008: European Capital of Culture.
In late 2007, he produced the Arts & Events programme for Urban Screens 07 (Manchester, UK), a roaming, international annual showcase of the best in creative outdoor media at outdoor venues throughout the city. Activities included architectural projection, VJ sets, live streaming, mobile gaming, motion-sensitive installations and a video exchange featuring the work of over 80 global contributors.
Bren’s wider background is a diverse mix of arts production and journalism: as a writer for children’s comics and blisteringly up-beat teen magazines, festival production (Edinburgh Fringe Society, Belfast Arts Festival), radio film critic, community video journalist, online news hound, short film enthusiast and freelance ne’er-do-well.
